Over the years, Vijay Awards has acquired an aura of its own. The public starts speculating who the winners will be. Newspapers and magazines start writing about it. The buzz within the Film industry is palpable. ​

Vijay Awards, now in it's ninth year is an annual event that honors excellence in Tamil cinema in various fields and categories. It is by far,  Vijay TV's  biggest event of the year and is eagerly anticipated by movie fans and stars alike. 

 

The awards are given to the best productions, performances and efforts in various fields of cinema as chosen by a jury of film-makers, technicians and critics. Some of the categories are open to public voting online. All of the activity culminates in the awards night, which is usually a star-studded affair attended by the who's who of Tamil cinema. 

 

In recent years, the Chevalier Shivaji Ganesan award has been instituted to honor life time achievements in the field.
